The Bath County area is considered a sportsman's paradise. It has abundant camping, hunting and fishing opportunities. It is also part of the Daniel Boone National Forest park system and has a portion of Cave Run Lake located in the county. There are many other natural forests and streams found throughout the county. Bath County is considered part of the Red River Gorge Trail.

WILDLIFE VIEWING
  • Cave Run Lake - The water flow conditions on the Licking River helps the habitat for many species of fish and wildlife. Lake visitors will find many opportunities for relaxation and fun.   • Clear Creek Lake - excellent area for birding and fishing. A variety of wildlife, including rare birds, call this location home. Bluegill, catfish & bass stock the lake. Canoes, rafts and john boats only are allowed on the lake. Clear Creek Lake is a popular migration stop for ducks and geese in the fall. (606) 784-6428.
  • Pioneer Weapons Wildlife Managment Area - Deer, turkey, grouse, squirrel, fox and raccoon can all be found here. (606) 784-6428.

OUTDOOR RECREATION

  • Zilpo Recreation Area - located on a 355-acre wooded peninsula extending into Cave Run Lake. This campground features 172 tent and RV campsites within walking distance of the lake. Facilities include bathhouses with showers, some electrical RV hookups, hiking and jogging trails, scenic overlooks, a boat ramp, and a country store. The large sandy beach offers visitors a spectacular view of the lake. Waterfowl and wildlife are commonly seen at Zilpo.
  • Clear Creek Recreation Area - Located near a quiet stream, this recreation area features 21 campsites, 14 picnic tables, and boat ramp providing access to Clear Creek Lake. Visitors may hike Clear Creek Trail or enjoy a visit to the historic iron furnace. (606) 784-6428
  • Pioneer Weapons Hunting Area - made up of 7,600+ acres in the Daniel Boone National Forest with turkey, deer, grouse, squirrel, fox and raccoon. Hunting is permited with primitive weapons only. 25 miles of hiking, biking and horseback riding trails. Only area of its type in the United States. (606) 784-6428.
  • Carrington Green Golf Course - 18 hole course located in a scenic area. Lunch & dinner can be served at the restaurant located on the golf course grounds. (606) 768-2100.
  • White Sulphur ATV Trail - designed for novice to moderatly experienced riders. 20 mile trail is arranged in connecting loops. Moderately rugged terrain. ATV's matching certain specifications are allowed in designated areas only. (606) 784-6428.
  • Rudy's Ranch & Horse Camp - over 200 miles of scenic horse trails. Also, foot trails, wagon trails and fully equipped barn and show ring. Camp with or without horses. Home-cooked meals are served on weekends. Various campsites, bunkhouse and a modular home available. (606) 768-6544.
  • Bluegrass Raceway Park - NHRA sanctioned dragway. Friday and Saturday night racing. Track elevation is 701 feet. Track specs: 200' concrete pad proceeded by asphalt. Concessions are available. (606) 674-3987.

ATTRACTIONS

  • Bath County Farmers Market - fresh produce and much more available here from June to September. Located in the Bath County Agricultural Education & Marketing Center. (606) 674-6121.
  • Bourbon Iron Furnace - Dates back to 1791. Was the first iron blast furnace west of the Allegheny Mountains and was one of Kentucky's earliest industries. Produced cannon balls and grape shot for the War of 1812. Also produced farm and home implements.
  • Owingsville Historic Main Street - gracious old homes and Victorian commercial bildings including the 1812 Owings House & Bank, 1866 Courthouse and 1938 School. (606) 674-6361.
  • Tater Knob Fire Tower (fire has damaged the tower - it is now closed to the public because of safety factors)
  • 1812 Owings House - Federal style mansion was built for Colonel Thomas Deye Owings. The town was named after him. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places and houses the Owingsville Banking Company. (606) 674-6361
